India Top 10 Amazing Hindu Temples 10. Tanah Lot -Situated on a large rock, Tanah Lot is one of the most famous Hindu temples in Bali, and probably the most photographed. The Tanah Lot temple has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries. The temple is one of 7 sea temples, each within eyesight of the next, to form a chain along the south-western coast of Bali. 9. Kanchipuram Temples -The City of 1000 Temples, Kanchipuram is one of the oldest cities in South India, and known for its ancient Hindu temples and silk sarees. The city contains several big temples like the Varadharaja Perumal Temple for Lord Vishnu and the Ekambaranatha Temple which is one of the five forms of abodes of Lord Siva. 8. Brihadeeswarar Temple -The Brihadishwara Temple, located in Thanjavur, India, was built by the Chola king Rajaraja I in the 11th century. The world's first complete granite temple, Brihadishwara is a brilliant example of the Dravidian style of temple architecture. The temple tower is 66 meters (216 feet) high making it one of the tallest temples in the world. 7. Khajuraho -The village of Khajuraho is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. It's numerous Hindu and Jain temples are famous for their erotic sculpture. The temples were built over a span of 200 years, from 950 to 1150. A few of the temples are dedicated to the Jain pantheon and the rest to Hindu deities, to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and various Devi forms. 6. Banteay Srei -Although officially part of the Angkor Wat complex, Banteay Srei lies 25 km (15 miles) north-east of the main group of temples, enough to list it separately here. The Hindu temple was completed in 967 AD and is built largely of red sandstone, a medium that lends itself to the elaborate decorative wall carvings which are still clearly visible today. Banteay Srei is the only major temple at Angkor not built for a king, instead it was constructed by one of king Rajendravarman's counselors, Yajnyavahara. 5. Sri Ranganathaswamy -Dedicated to Lord Ranganatha (a reclining form of Lord Vishnu), the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, India is an important shrine that receives millions of visitors and pilgrims every year. With an area of 156 acres (6,31,000 m²), the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest religious complexes in the world. The oldest structure of the temple dates back to the 10th century. 4. Virupaksha Temple -The Virupaksha Temple in the city of Hampi in India started out as a small shrine and grew into a large complex under the Vijayanagara rulers. It is believed that this temple has been functioning uninterruptedly ever since the small shrine was built in the 7th century AD which makes it one of the oldest functioning Hindu temples in India. The largest entrance tower of the temple is 50 meters high. 3. Prambanan -Prambanan is the largest and most beautiful Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. Located about 18 km east of Yogyakarta, it is somewhat overshadowed by the even more awe-inspiring Borobudur situated just next door. The two sites are quite different in style though, with Prambanan being a collection of tall and pointed Hindu temples, instead of the single large Buddhist stupa of Borobudur. Prambanan has three main temples dedicated to Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva and was built around 850AD by the Mataram Kingdom, rulers of central Java. 2. Meenakshi Amman Temple -The Meenakshi Amman Temple is one of the most important Indian Hindu temples, located in the holy city of Madurai. The temple is dedicated to Sundareswar (form of Lord Shiva) and Meenakshi (form of Goddess Parvati). The complex houses 14 magnificent towers including two golden Gopurams for the main deities, that are elaborately sculptured and painted. The temple is a significant symbol for the Tamil people, and has been mentioned for the last couple of millennia, though the present structure was built in the early 17th century. 1. Angkor Wat -Angkor is a vast temple complex in Cambodia featuring the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century AD. These include the famous Angkor Wat temple, the world's largest single religious monument, and the Bayon temple (at Angkor Thom) with its multitude of massive stone faces. During it's long history Angkor went through many changes in religion converting between Hinduism to Buddhism several times. source-http://www.touropia.com/amazing-hindu-temples/ I, Sk Atar Ali hereby declare that all Images use to make this video is from Google Search www.google.com. This is my next film called "Freedom for Hindu Temples". A highly important issue which perhaps very few people know about. Tens of thousands of Hindu Temples in India have been taken over by various state governments who have maintained their presence for the last many decades in these temples. The constitution of India under article 25, 26 and 29 (1) specifically allows all religious denominations to manage and administer their own religious affairs. But in practice, Hindus have been discriminated against in tens of thousands of instances. In modern India, one must ask the question: Why has this happened, is there a way out, what can we do? Do watch share and look out for this film and more films to come soon on this really important topic. Thanks to all those who helped with this film especially Srijan Foundation and Rahul Dewan, Narendra Bharadwaj, Shakuntala Iyer, TR Ramesh, Kiran Bettadapura, Girish Bharadwaj and Varsha Iyer.

A closer look at today's political and social arena clearly reveals how Hindu institutions and Hinduism in India are unfairly targeted by a combination of vote bank politics and unscrupulous politicians and businessmen. Particularly alarming is the destruction of Hindu institutions and the illegal mass conversions by other religions. Here is the recording to the talk by J. Sai Deepak where he helps us understand: - The Constitutional limits on Statist intervention in Hindu religious institutions - The need to free Hindu religious institutions from the stranglehold of the Government - The extent to which Courts have recognised and facilitated Statist intervention in Hindu religious institutions - The alternative to State management of Hindu religious institutions

This is a collection of waterspouts in ancient Hindu temples all over South East Asia. These spouts have a valuable purpose: they drain rainwater from the roof safely so that the water doesn't damage the temple walls. These are popularly known as Gargoyles in the European countries, where these spouts are designed as grotesque hybrid creatures. In ancient Hindu temples you can see a creative variety of spouts, and I have only visited a small percentage of thousands of such temples. See a brief explanation of these spouts below: 0:01 A woman carved in Konark Sun Temple, Orissa built in 1250 A.D . This is a great example of how open minded the culture was back then, to carve a scene like this in a Temple. Today, it is impossible to carve a spout like this in any religious building anywhere in the world. 0:20 This is a 2-level spout carved in Brihadeeswarar temple, Tamil Nadu which was built in 1010 A.D. A bigger spout drains holy water into a large tank, which has a smaller spout. The smaller spout releases the water into a ground level tank which is connected to the drainage system. 0:35 A fantastic gargoyle in Bhaktapur, Nepal. It was created around 1428 A.D which shows a hybrid dragon swallowing a goat. The dragon has an elephant's trunk and snakes around its neck, while a mouse is also carved kissing the dragon. 0:55 A man carved in Konark Sun Temple in 1250 A.D. A kid, presumably his son is carved behind him. It seems like the kid is about the push the dad from the roof, a very playful depiction. 1:11 A spout on top of Ellora caves, carved around 400 A.D. It has a very simple design, but it shows how people have used spouts even 1600 years ago. 1:35 A neat array of 108 bull faces carved in Muktinath temple, Nepal. The temple was built around 1250 A.D, and people believe all their sins will be forgiven if they bathe under these spouts. 1:51 A man's face carved at Neak Pean, Cambodia. This structure was built around 1150 A.D by King Jayavarman VII. I call it a "structure" because nobody knows if it was meant to be a temple or a hospital, not to mention if it is a Hindu or a Buddhist structure. 2:06 A long spout rests on the head of a gana (an attendant), who is using a pipe to drink some of the flowing water. A very intriguing carving, because his belly is bloated from drinking all the water. What is the story behind this spout in Thanjavur, carved in 1010 A.D? 2:44 A crocodile catches a fish that must have come through the draining water, although the water itself comes out of the crocodile's mouth! It was carved around 1250 A.D in Konark. 3:04 A group of holy people drain water out of their pots. Carved in Bali, Indonesia around 1550 A.D 3:12 Another multilevel spout in Thanjavur, carved in 1010 A.D 3:35 A woman in Konark, carved around 1250 A.D. Where is her head? 3:46 A dragon's face in Muktinath, Nepal carved around 1250 A.D 3:54 An elephant carved in Angkor, Cambodia around 1150 A.D 4:14 Water flows out of a figure's mouth. Carved in Sun Temple, Orissa around 1250 A.D. 4:30 A hybrid of Hippopotamus and Rhinoceros carved in Konark around 1250 A.D. The front view shows two men playing with its horn (typical of a rhino), while its enlarged canines and incisors are typical of a hippopotamus. I hope you enjoyed my little compilation. I simulated the water flow in some parts and it is my first time doing it, so it is not up to the mark. Please visit http://www.phenomenalplace.com for intriguing and interesting places on earth. My Son is a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples constructed between the 4th and the 14th century by the kings of Champa. The temples are dedicated to the worship of the god Shiva. At one time, the site encompassed over 70 temples as well as numerous stele bearing historically important inscriptions in Sanskrit and Cham. The My Son temple complex is regarded one of the foremost Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia and is the foremost heritage site of this nature in Vietnam. It is often compared with other historical temple complexes in Southeast Asia, such as Borobudur of Java in Indonesia, Angkor Wat of Cambodia, Bagan of Myanmar and Ayutthaya of Thailand. As of 1999, My Son has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. My Son is perhaps the longest inhabited archaeological site in Indochina, but a large majority of its architecture was destroyed by US carpet bombing during a single week of the Vietnam War. There are travel guides that compare My Son with Angkor Wat, Bagan and Borobudur. Historically, they have a point: in their time, these complexes were leading spiritual centers, and they have all fallen into a state of atmospheric ruin. However, the ruins at My Son are not as impressive as either of the aforementioned sites, for various reasons: the smaller scale of the original site, for example, the comparatively poor upkeep, and severe damage to the buildings from time and war. As such, they're not likely to wow anyone who's been to Angkor recently, but even so, the gorgeous jungle scenery may be worth the trip, and anyone who has an interest in Vietnamese history that doesn't involve America or France will be fascinated.
